At SoundRadar24, we are honored to shine a spotlight on Broadtree, a Canadian country music duo that has turned adversity into artistry. Composed of Armand and Nicole, their journey began in the most unexpected way during a time when creativity seemed like the only way to navigate the stillness of the world. What started as a small project blossomed into a full-fledged musical endeavor, earning them recognition and success in the indie music scene.
The Unexpected Beginning
For Armand, Broadtree was born out of necessity. “We were two performers who had our entire world stripped away from us during the pandemic. We were honestly bored and needed a creative outlet” he explains. While the world came to a halt, Armand and Nicole found solace in creating music, a passion that grew organically.
Nicole recalls the story: “Our journey is unique because it just happened so naturally. Armand asked me to record a cover with him about a year into the pandemic. That cover led to a music video, then a live-stream concert, and eventually an EP. From there, we tried our hand at writing original songs. Everything moved so fast that by the time we released an album, Broadtree had taken on a life of its own.”
What started as a way to cope with isolation quickly evolved into a project filled with purpose, passion, and momentum. Four years later, Armand and Nicole are thriving as a duo, crafting music that resonates deeply with their growing fan base.
The Heart of Their Sound
Broadtree’s music is a vibrant blend of country, Broadway, and even Disney-inspired charm. Nicole describes her influences with fondness, reminiscing about the 90s and early 2000s country legends like Shania Twain, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, and Sugarland. “That era of country music shaped me, and it’s what naturally comes out when we create melodies,” she explains.
Beyond classic country, their sound is shaped by their experiences as performers and their love for storytelling. Nicole adds, “Fans often tell us our songs sound like they could be sung by a Disney princess. I think it’s a mix of the melodies, our voices, and the emotion we bring to each performance.”
For Armand, Taylor Swift stands out as an inspiration for both her music and her business acumen. “Her songwriting approach, using personal experiences to tell unique and layered stories, is something we strive for too,” he shares. Alongside Swift, Armand’s admiration for Bon Jovi is evident in their earlier work, adding a rock edge to their country roots.
Defining Moments in Their Career
Success has come in many forms for Broadtree, and every milestone is deeply cherished. Nicole reflects, “We’ve had a few #1 singles in Canada on the indie charts, released more music than we ever thought possible, and been part of incredible causes. None of this would have happened without Broadtree.”
For Armand, the moments that stand out are diverse yet equally meaningful. “Whether it’s performing at a prestigious venue, winning our first award, charting a single, or hearing our music on the radio, each achievement feels like a step forward and gives us the motivation for what comes next.”
Broadtree’s ability to embrace every success, no matter the scale, highlights their gratitude and dedication to their craft.
New Releases and Upcoming Projects
Broadtree continues to keep their momentum going with exciting new projects. Recently, they released their single, “Bye Felicia”, a collaboration with Justine Chantale. Armand describes the track as “a female-empowering bop,” and Nicole elaborates on its message: “It’s about standing up to toxic people who try to bring you down. It’s big, fun, and catchy, with a great message behind it.”
Looking ahead, the duo has even more planned for the new year, including new singles and a focus on mental health initiatives. Their music aims not only to entertain but also to inspire and support their community.
A Message Through Music
At the core of Broadtree’s artistry lies hope. Nicole shares, “Even in our slower or sadder songs, there’s always something positive to be found, and we make sure that comes across.”
Armand echoes this sentiment, adding, “We love hearing how our songs resonate with people. Knowing that our music speaks to someone is an amazing feeling. Ultimately, we want to have fun and share that joy with our audience. If it’s not fun, you’re doing it wrong.”
